AWTG Dubai Seminar 2010
Third annual seminar on "Towards LTE and Beyond: Opportunities and Challenges" to be held on the 14 October 2009- At 9.00AM to 4.30PM - Royal Garden Hotel, London, UK, organised by the AWTG. The main speakers at the seminar will be Prof. Aghvami and guests from Industry. This seminar will also highlight the future direction of emerging wireless technologies and their standards.
AWTG ran its second WiMAX and future wireless network workshop in Dubai in June. The workshop was presented by professor Aghvami and was attended by operators and vendors from across the region. AWTG would like to thank British Telecom for its contribution to this workshop. AWTG is planning to hold its next workshop in Europe. If you would like to attend the next workshop please register your interest on the Training & Seminars page.
AWTG launches its own WiMAX mobility planning software for uplink and downlink simulation. The software is used as an added value service for our customer projects.

Future Broadband Networks and Services: Challenges and opportunities

13th April 2010- At 9.00AM to 4.30PM - The Westin Dubai Mina Seyahi Beach Resort & Marina P.O.Box 24883 Dubai,
United Arab Emirates

It is now widely accepted by incumbent mobile operators that Long Term Evolution (LTE) will be the dominant path to next generation wireless mobile broadband networks. Major 3G operators such as Verizon in the USA, TeliaSonera in Sweden, China Mobile and NTT DoCoMo in Japan have already detailed plans to roll out LTE commercially in 2010. More operators will follow this trend in the coming years. This workshop aims to provide a forum to discuss the challenges that incumbent and emerging operators are facing in deploying LTE networks. It will investigate issues such as the minimisation of CAPEX and OPEX in LTE rollout, while at the same time satisfying user demands for better Quality of Experience (QoE) for different services and applications. This workshop will also discuss potential opportunities that a successful deployment of LTE will bring to operators; moreover, it will address some related issues and questions, including:
  • How can mobile cellular operators retain their traditional revenues from voice and SMS in an increasingly competitive environment, while at the same time increasing their revenues from other sources such as new data services and applications?
  • How can operators reduce their CAPEX and OPEX, while still upgrading their network infrastructure to cope with the huge increase in network traffic?
  • The challenge of profitability: Mobile operators have similar network infrastructures and offer the same services and applications. However, their profit margins are different. Why?
  • What will be the nature of future applications for LTE, and will LTE with its higher throughput and lower delay bring the commercial success of current wired Internet services and applications to the mobile domain?
  • How can LTE mobile operators cope with the expected huge increase in traffic on their networks while at the same time increasing their revenues proportionally?
  • How can operators offer LTE applications and services efficiently and cost-effectively to their customers?
  • What are the optimal business models for LTE?
