From Barrier-Breaking to Energy-Saving: SCONDA Shortlisted Twice at Connected Britain Awards 2025

AWTG is excited to share that the SCONDA (Small Cells ORAN in Dense Areas) Project has been shortlisted in two categories, the Sustainability Award and the Barrier Removal Award, at the Connected Britain Awards 2025. As the Consortium Lead Partner, AWTG is proud to be recognised alongside an outstanding group of collaborators for pushing the boundaries of what is possible in network deployment and urban connectivity.

The Connected Britain Awards celebrate organisations that are transforming UK connectivity through innovation, inclusivity, and impact. Being shortlisted under two highly competitive categories is a reflection of the SCONDA consortium’s bold approach to solving real-world challenges in one of the UK’s most complex urban environments. The project delivered the world’s first Open RAN system integrated into a live MNO brownfield network in central Glasgow.

Alongside AWTG, the SCONDA consortium partners are Accenture, Freshwave, Mavenir, PI Works, The Scotland 5G Centre, VodafoneThree, University of Glasgow, and University of Surrey. We are deeply thankful to the Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) for their trust, vision, and continued support throughout the project. DSIT has enabled the SCONDA model to evolve into a scalable and replicable blueprint, already drawing interest from smart city initiatives and reinforcing the UK’s leadership in digital infrastructure transformation.

Join us at Connected Britain 2025 this September 24-25 at ExCeL London, where AWTG is proud to return as a major sponsor. We look forward to sharing more about SCONDA’s journey and our broader commitment to inclusive, sustainable connectivity. Visit us at Stand 113 to explore how we’re helping shape the networks of tomorrow.
