AWTG at the Forefront of Connectivity Innovation at Glasgow Event

Glasgow, 21 October 2024 – AWTG proudly took centre stage at the Smart and Connected Social Places – Connectivity Event held today at the prestigious Glasgow City Chambers Banqueting Hall and Mahogany Suite. The event, dedicated to advancing connectivity projects across the Glasgow City Region and beyond, saw key figures from AWTG presenting ground-breaking developments in their DSIT-funded projects.

Mike Carter, AWTG’s Director of Public Networks, had an in-depth discussion of the SCONDA (Small Cells ORAN in Dense Areas) Project as one of the speakers. This initiative seeks to overcome the technical and commercial challenges associated with delivering robust 5G connectivity in high-density demand areas. The SCONDA Project is poised to be a global first in integrating Open RAN with Traditional RAN while managing live traffic.

Greg Mordon, AWTG’s Programme Manager, was also present, contributing to the event’s rich tapestry of insights by sharing details about other pivotal AWTG initiatives. These projects highlight AWTG’s unwavering commitment to innovation and the future of connectivity, fortified by substantial support from Department for Science, Innovation and Technology (DSIT) funding.

The event provided an excellent platform for networking and exploring collaboration opportunities, featuring a variety of projects such as Borderlands 5G, Glasgow City Region 5GIR, Innovation Districts, the Digital Glasgow Strategy 2024-2030, and Ayrshire 5GIR. Attendees gained valuable insights into the Glasgow City Region 5G DSIT funded programme, the Smart and Connected Social Places initiative, and the Innovation Action Plan.

As the event concluded, it was clear that AWTG remains a pioneering force in the connectivity landscape, spearheading transformative projects that are set to redefine urban connectivity not only in Glasgow but globally.
