AWTG is delighted to be part of history as The Corn Exchange, Cambridge hosted the first-ever Augmented Reality (AR) live concert, made possible by the Cambridgeshire Open RAN Ecosystem (CORE) project. Led by Connecting Cambridgeshire and supported by Cambridge Wireless Ltd, the groundbreaking event showcased the power of 5G and Open RAN technology in redefining live entertainment experiences.
During the event, local band Smith & Brewer performed live on stage while participants equipped with AR headsets and haptic vests experienced the concert in a whole new dimension. They could see, hear, and feel the music, fully immersed in the performance while still engaging with others at the venue—proving that AR doesn’t have to be an isolating experience. This milestone event highlights how 5G and AR can seamlessly merge physical and virtual worlds, revolutionising the way audiences experience live performances.
As a CORE project partner, AWTG brings its expertise in 5G Open RAN, supporting the design, integration, optimisation, and operation of this multi-vendor neutral host platform for High Demand Density (HDD) areas. Our team was on-site at this first 5G-powered AR event, leveraging our own private 5G network, FlexRAN, to stream high-density video content in real time to AR headsets. This showcase not only marks a leap forward for the future of live events but also coincides with the 150th anniversary of The Corn Exchange, making it an unforgettable celebration of technology and history.
